Also Known As The “Hitler Loved Dogs” Effect

May 16, 2014

As I recall, while the evidence does indeed support the idea that a person who is cruel to animals is extremely likely to be cruel to people as well, it’s my understanding this is usually explained as a demonstration of a general lack of empathy on said person’s part.

Unfortunately, however, it can not truthfully be said that just because someone is good to animals, they will, of necessity, likewise be good to people.

Oh, Bother!

A lesson you may find yourself learning over and over again, son, is that sometimes just because something “shouldn’t” bother you, doesn’t mean that it won’t anyway. I have no easy advice on what to do in those situations, but I can tell you that, as with so many things, the first step is admitting it to yourself. After that . . .

After that, well . . . frankly, the second step is heavily dependent on the exact situation you find yourself in, so much so that it may take some experimentation to even find the second step. Feel free to ask me for my help in those situations as they arise.

Time To Stop Doing That

May 14, 2014

My ability to travel through time is generally one of my more reliable skills. Usually I travel one second into the future every second, just like clockwork, really, but today something seemed to have gone amiss. After spending the approximate duration of the Roman Empire watching the clock crawl from 7:30 to 10:30 this morning, I decided I’d better take a look under the hood and see what was wrong.

Silly me. I’d left the parking brake on again.

Birthday Moments – 2014

May 12, 2014

Me: So . . . since it’s my birthday, does this mean I get to sleep in tomorrow?”

My Family: *deafening silence*

Me: *chuckling* Yeah . . . that’s pretty much what I figured.

Mom: It’s a good thing you picked up the phone, otherwise I would have had to sing “Happy Birthday” as my message.

Me: Why do you think I picked up the phone?

Pre-Birthday Thought – 2014

Hey! Wasn’t the world supposed to end in 2012? I’ve been kind of busy lately, so I might have missed it . . .

That Sounds More Doable

May 8, 2014

The following represents an actual internal dialogue I had with myself earlier today:

What a ridiculous day! All I want from this evening is an oasis of sanity where we all sit down at the table together and have a meal in peace like a normal family!

Actually . . . now that I think of it, I doubt that’s been the norm for some time . . . and even that’s presuming that family behavior like that has ever really been “normal.”

Fine! Then what I want is for all of us to have a meal in peace like an abnormal family then!

Though It DID Bother Me That I Hadn’t Realized It Had Bothered Me

May 7, 2014

As the recent series of even briefer than normal entries have implied, free time has been in pretty short supply for me again lately. Nothing to get bothered over, this happens from time to time, particularly with a three-year-old in the house, but . . . it bothered me anyway.

But once I realized that, at least it didn’t bother me that it bothered me.

Me Too

I would like to find a stew that will give me heartburn immediately, instead of at three o clock in the morning.
