Stormy Days

April 18, 2019

When things get rough, I’m just not one of those people who feels the need to ascribe beauty to an ugly situation.  Yes, I’ve seen storms that have been as beautiful as they were terrifying, but that didn’t make the aftermath any less horrific.

I Thought It Was The Perfect Retort

April 24, 2017

The other day at work one of Lala’s coworkers literally swept her off her feet into a hug.  Now, Lala is on the tall side, so this was a new experience for her.

“He just picked me up like I was nothing!” she gushed to another coworker.

“Oh, honey, you’re beautiful!” said coworker replied, meaning well, but completely missing the point and underscoring just how . . . odd this culture can be when it comes weight.

Lala just looked at her quizzically and retorted, “Nobody said anything about me being ugly!”

The Exceptions

August 9, 2012

Sharp-eyed readers of yesterday’s (extremely well received) post will note that I felt the need to concede that there are exceptions to the rule I proposed yesterday.  The reason for this concession is simple:

I’ve met some in my time, not many, a scant handful at worst . . . but some.

But truth be told, it wasn’t their physical features that made me find them less than pretty, but the way the bitterness and anger that so obviously swirled in their souls twisted their physical features into something unattractive to me.

I doubt most of them cared about my reaction to them one way or the other, so this post is really nothing more than a personal observation on my subjective opinion of beauty . . . there’s no great lesson lurking around in this one.

. . .

But if you happen to find one in it anyway, then good on you.
