It Was Surprisingly Catchy

January 11, 2018

It’s always funny to me what’s funny to me after two nights of little to no sleep.  Today in my son’s virtual school his teacher put up a link for a song and the link didn’t work despite numerous attempts on her part.

So that’s how my son and I ended up singing several enthusiastic (if tuneless) rounds of “Service Unavailable . . . HTTP . . . Error 503 . . . This Service Is UNavailable!”

I’m Literally Having Some Windows Replaced On My Home

February 2, 2017

Today my house is getting a windows upgrade.

Insert your own computer joke here if you like, maybe you can actually come up with a worthwhile one.  I certainly couldn’t.

But even though I couldn’t come up with a joke good enough (or bad enough) to mark the occasion, it did occur to me that 30-some years ago there wouldn’t have been a joke to make at all.

I Know That I’ve Been Busy Lately, But I Don’t Generally Let My Messages Sit For 130 Years Before Reading Them!

January 3, 2017

You know how most kinds of electronic messages these days have some sort of time stamp of when they were received?

Last night I received one that claimed to have been delivered 1567 months ago . . .

More Technical Difficulties

December 27, 2016

My laptop appears to be in the process of dying.  Hopefully this shall be a slow process until I can get a replacement here, but we shall see.  In the meantime I’ve back up all my data and will continue to work on my current laptop as long as it lets me, but I’ll also use this as further motivation to hit that chore list around the house.

That Means I Really, REALLY Understand It At This Point

February 11, 2015

My son, being a child of the computer age, has a very clear concept of the touchscreen.

My son, being a child, has a less clear concept of “that screen is not a touchscreen, so that means don’t touch it!”

This is as understandable to me as it is frustrating.

And I’m Already Over Time

January 28, 2015

Ever since the realization that L., if allowed, will spend way too much time on the computer, we’ve been fighting an uphill (but successful) battle to limit his computer time.  Since this is a habit he picked up from all of us, part of this battle has included limiting our own computer time.

With that said, I must now go because my son has in complete fairness informed me that it’s time for me to get off the computer, and that I only have “one more minute to wrap it up.”

And The Scariest Thing I’ve Heard A Four-Year-Old Say This Year Was . . .

December 26, 2014

Computers sure are heavy . . .

– My son, L. (Overheard by me approximately 30 seconds after I went to the kitchen for a snack.)

(The computer was fine.  On the floor . . . but fine.)
